About the event
In this lecture, Rev. Sandy will share his knowledge of Biblical history as he provides the context – the place, the people, the time and circumstances during which Jesus delivered the Sermon on the Mount. He will also address the impact of Jesus’ teachings at that time.
Sandy will speak to ways in which Christians in today’s world have engaged with this text and why there is a tendency to focus on The Ten Commandments (Exodus 20), rather than The Beatitudes (Matthew 5:1-11). He will then consider the Sermon on the Mount within the context of the challenges that we face in today’s world.
Rev. Sandy’s lecture will be available on Strathearn’s YouTube site on October 31, 2023
Following the posted lecture, you are invited to join us for an in-person conversation on this topic.
Participants are invited, if they so wish, to bring their own questions and insights to the safe and welcoming environment of this conversation.
Additional points for discussion may include:
- The Sermon on the Mount as a vision for our faith.
- How can we live out that faith in the reality of today’s world? (Israel/Gaza conflict, Climate change, Income inequality, Cost of living crisis)
- What does it mean to be an active Christian?
ALL ARE WELCOME!
