The primary role of the Mission & Outreach Committee is to bring awareness to the congregation of specific needs within the Edmonton and area community. Our committee selects projects to become involved with throughout the calendar year. Typical projects include: sponsoring a Mustard Seed Dinner, providing and serving lunch for the Inner City Pastoral Ministry (ICPM) program held at Bissell Centre, and an annual Outward Journey Project, to support one or more specific need of recipient charities in our community.
During the Advent season we have a Mitten Tree collection and a White Gift Sunday, for Bissell Centre. We also take part in the annual No Room In the Inn campaign, collecting donations for a designated recipient, to help end homelessness in Edmonton and area.
We also encourage weekly donations in our regular offerings to the Mission & Service Fund of The United Church of Canada, to help with crisis, missions, and social injustices in Canada and around the world.
October 17: Food Collection for the Edmonton Food Bank : To carry on Dan Greene’s legacy and the work of Mission and Outreach, we will continue our annual food bank collection. This is an outdoor no-contact event, with donors dropping off non-perishable food items into the Edmonton Food Bank collection boxes located at the northeast corner Walker Hall (in the alley). The doors will be left open, donors will park and deposit items into boxes themselves. We will need 4-6 Volunteers, with masks on to post signs, direct traffic and donors, and monitor the food collection. Collection will be from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm and will be advertised to our congregation and the community. If you are available to volunteer, please call the office at 780-466-5822 or Marj Page at 780-466-9153. The Edmonton Food Bank will collect the filled boxes later in the week. The only washroom in the church that will be open is the unisex, accessible washroom, next to Rev Sandy’s office. You will need to follow safety and hygiene rules posted to use it, and masks must be worn at all times in the church.
