About the event
Previously, we considered “The Sermon on the Mount”. In that lecture, Rev. Sandy shared the context and impact of this beginning of Jesus’ ministry. The lecture and follow-up conversation addressed the way in which Christians engage with this text today and how we may work actively to fulfill the vision expressed in the Beatitudes.
In this next lecture, Rev. Sandy will introduce us to three different approaches to religious activism, by comparing the work of Oscar Romero, Dietrich Bonhoeffer and the Iona Community. He will address the importance of the Sermon on the Mount to each of these, as well as the hope that lies behind it.
The lecture will be posted to YouTube on Tuesday, November 28th.
On December 5th, you are invited to join us for an in-person conversation on this topic, in the Upper Room.
Participants are invited, if they so wish, to bring their own questions and insights to the safe and welcoming environment of this conversation.
Additional points for discussion may include:
- Do we/how do we relate to the three approaches to religious activism shared in Rev. Sandy’s lecture?
- How important is church structure to Christian activism?
- Are there tools that we can take away from these approaches that may help us in our conversations with others?
ALL ARE WELCOME!
